Articles of association

The Vegaøyan World Heritage Foundation was established by Vega municipality on April 5, 2005. The Foundation's statutes were adopted on the same day. They have subsequently undergone some adjustments, but today's statutes are essentially the same as those adopted in 2005.

Paragraph 2 deals with the Foundation's purpose and points out that its most important task is to contribute to safeguarding the values and qualities that form the basis for the designation of Vegaøyan World Heritage, as delineated and described in the nomination document Vegaøyan The Vega Archipelago (2003).

In order to fulfill its purpose, the Foundation shall, among other things, work for:

  • Documentation / monitoring / reporting
  • Research activity
  • Dissemination / information
  • Facilitation measures
  • Conservation measures / restoration
  • Networking / collaboration
  • Donations / financing of initiatives
  • Project follow-up / initiation and implementation of measures
  • Quality assurance of performers / contractors (register of craftsmen)

The Foundation's prioritization of measures and activities shall be governed by the guidelines in force at any given time for following up the UNESCO Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, protection regulations and the current management plan for the Vegaøyan World Heritage Site.
