Support the birdtenders in Vegaøyan

Author James Rebanks has lived with birdtenders in Vegaøyan for several periods. In the book « the birdtender From Vega" he encourages readers to support the eider tradition by donating money. Contributions are managed by the Vegaøyan World Heritage Foundation, whose main purpose is to promote world heritage values.

The most important item on the Foundation's budget is the eider tradition, where the birdtenders are given a small allowance for living outside the islands During the breeding season, they protect the eiders from all disturbances. Before the season, they build nests and repair the characteristic eider houses that provide the birds with protection from weather, wind and predators.

This is what James Rebanks writes:

"Following what is described in this book, I have been welcomed to a number of other eiderdown islands , and where I have seen the amazing work being done in these places by dozens of wonderful women and men. I hope that some of the readers will support the downy weather in this book, by considering making a contribution to funding restoration work and training future birdtenders : https://verdensarvvega.no/donations"
