Norwegian Nature Inspectorate
The Norwegian Nature Inspectorate (SNO) has been established with one position linked to the world heritage site. However, the supervisor is responsible for the whole of Helgeland from Rødøy to Namdalen. The Norwegian Nature Inspectorate, the Vega protected area board and the Vegaøyan World Heritage Foundation cooperate in the Nes Management Hub, after Vega municipality was given local management of the protected areas in 2010.
SNO is responsible for state nature supervision and has been granted authority to supervise under the Nature Conservation Act, the Outdoor Recreation Act, the Wildlife Act, the Salmon and Inland Fisheries Act, the Motor Vehicles Act, the Cultural Heritage Act and parts of the Pollution Control Act. SNO has a special responsibility for national conservation values and supervisory tasks of a national nature.
The most important measures of SNO in the World Heritage Area are:
- Supervision
- Information for boaters in the area
- Litter campaign in collaboration with Vega school and landowners
- Mapping of red list species of birds in Helgeland
- Mapping of alien species, preferably Sitka spruce
- Extraction of Sitka
- Participation in meetings with birdwatchers in the world heritage area under the auspices of Stiftelsen oa møter
