The Foundation
The purpose of the foundation is to contribute to the preservation of the area's values and is responsible for reporting to UNESCO on management, dissemination, research and local efforts to preserve and develop the World Heritage Site.
Working together
In order to achieve the objectives of its World Heritage work locally and nationally, the Foundation is dependent on good cooperation with other organizations and agencies.
Children & Youth
UNESCO's World Heritage Convention places great emphasis on communicating World Heritage to children and young people so that they understand why their home, natural or cultural heritage has been awarded World Heritage status.
The eider tradition
With its World Heritage status, the Vegaøyan World Heritage Foundation has gained the financial means to provide grants to birdwatchers to be out on the islands. This has resulted in a positive development in the Vega Islands. The number of birds and birdwatchers has now tripled from a few years ago.
Research and development
For a number of years, several research institutions have been conducting research into nature and culture on Vega, from the Stone Age to geology, the marine environment and animal and bird life. The latest research report was published in July 2023.
