Our projects

The foundation carries out some projects on its own, while other initiatives and projects are carried out in collaboration with Vega municipality, Vega conservation area board, the Norwegian Nature Inspectorate, Helgeland Museum, Nordland Ærfugllag and other volunteers.

Projects that the Foundation is or has been involved in:

  • Purchase of the island Gangarøy in Hysvær as a base for a future teaching and communication arena with children and young people as a priority target group, 2022 - , project under development
  • Restoration of buildings in Bremstein for bird watchers, 2022 -, project in progress
  • Establishment of a folk high school based on world heritage values on Vega, 2019 - , project in progress
  • "Fuglan veit", collaboration with UiT The Arctic University of Norway, 2019 - 2024, project in progress
  • "Sound of Silence", collaboration with Bodø as European City of Culture 2024, 2019 - 2024, project in progress
  • Exhibition in the fishing port on Gardsøy and at Vega World Heritage Center, 2020 - 2022
  • Information screens in the stores on Vega, 2022
  • Visitor management and visitor strategy for Vegaøyan World Heritage with protected areas. The work has been under the auspices of the Vega protected area board, 2018 - 2021
  • Financing of Vega World Heritage Center and development of exhibition concept, 2018 - 2019
  • Communication strategy for the world heritage, including communication concept for Vega World Heritage Center, 2016 - 2019
  • Turkart for Vega and Vegaøyan, 2020
  • Information screens about Vegaøyan World Heritage on the ferry "Torgtind", 2018
  • Vulnerability analysis for traffic on the islands to which there are guided boat tours in the World Heritage Area. NIBIO Tjøtta was commissioned to carry out the analysis, 2010
  • Outdoor exhibition at Nes about Vegaøyan and traffic, 2016
  • Information boards for the boat marinas in Helgeland about the World Heritage Site and the need for traffic on nature's terms, 2015
  • Travel map for the World Heritage Site with special emphasis on how visitors in boats can avoid disturbing the birdlife, 2010 - 2022
  • Collaboration with the bird watchers and Nordland Ærfugllag on the restoration and construction of new eider houses in the old downyards, 2008 - 2023
  • Vegetation mapping of the islands in the World Heritage Area. The work has been carried out by Bioforsk Nord Tjøtta (now NIBIO), 2008 - 2021
  • Youth conservation project in Skjærvær and Skogsholmen, 2008 - 2012
  • Survey on the importance of seaweed for eider ducks in collaboration with the County Governor of Nordland, Hydra Vega and Algea (2010)
  • Digital storytelling for 4th - 10th graders at Vega School (See film about Store Emårsøy)
  • Information boards on the islands that have boat calls in the summer.
  • Cooperation project with Neringa National Park and Neringa Municipality in Lithuania
  • Cooperation project with the Malopolska region in Poland on the management of World Heritage sites
  • North Atlantic eider project with Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Bioforsk Nord Tjøtta (now NIBIO) had project management
  • Collaboration with Vega Næringsselskap and Vega municipality on the development of a tourism strategy and pilot project for sustainable tourism
  • Collaboration with Vega municipality and the County Governor of Nordland on the establishment and financing of a 2-year project position as nature manager for the world heritage area
