SoS - Seabird conference, Vega July 3, 2024
The Vegaøyan World Heritage Foundation invites you to a seabird conference at the Vega World Heritage Center on July 3rd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. On July 2nd there is an island trip to Lånan . See attached program.
The decline in seabird populations is dramatic and on April 3-4, the Vegaøyan Foundation invited the World Heritage Site and partners to a seabird conference in Bodø and Fleinvær. Now it's Vega's turn, where there will be an island trip to Lånan July 2nd and seabird conference at Vega World Heritage Center on July 3rd.
The purpose of the conference is to initiate discussions between researchers, birdtenders , politicians, artists and representatives from public administration and local communities.
- What can researchers learn from the practical knowledge of the birdtenders ?And what can the local community learn from the researchers?
- How can this knowledge be used by public administration?
- Can we jointly find solutions for seabirds; secure areas in the coastal zone and marine areas, prevent disturbances during the breeding season, measures in fisheries, etc. Our goal is to contribute to reversing the trend. www.soundofsilence.no
The project is part of Bodø2024 and has been developed in collaboration with UiT - The Arctic University of Norway with Nordland County as a partner.
