Vegaøyan World Heritage 1 - 3 July:
The Vegaøyan World Heritage Foundation will mark the 20th anniversary of the Vegaøyan World Heritage Site with various events from July 1 to 3. The aim is both to celebrate the World Heritage Site and to highlight the challenges facing nature and the environment. Through the "Sound of Silence" project, the Foundation is focusing in particular on the dramatic decline in seabird populations.
The first part of "Sound of Silence" was held on April 3-4 in Bodø and Fleinvær when around 100 committed participants met to hear birdwatchers and researchers describe the situation for seabirds, nature and the environment. Through group discussions and challenges to politicians, artistic expressions, exhibitions and music over the two days, the participants agreed that it is important to sound the alarm and work together to get the situation of seabirds on the national agenda.
"Sound of Silence" continues at Vega from July 1 - 3.

SoS - Seabird conference July 3
Through the SoS - Seabird Conference on July 3 at Vega World Heritage Center, the Vegaøyan Foundation and partners will highlight the challenges seabirds face: What are the practical observations? What can researchers learn from the practical knowledge of birdwatchers? Can the local communities learn anything from the researchers? What do the politicians say?
And we ask how we can help seabirds? Can they jointly put the situation for seabirds on the national and international agenda? And can we work together to find solutions for seabirds; securing areas in the coastal zone and in the oceans, preventing disturbances during the breeding season and can something be done about fishing gear that is a death trap for the birds? The project "Sound of Silence" has a title inspired by how the sound of the birds in the bird cliffs and bird cliffs is becoming quieter in more and more places. Our goal is to help reverse this trend. Partners are UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, Bodø2024, Nordland County Council, Randsone Vega, Kunstbruket by Vibeke Emilie Steinsholm, Vega Municipality and Vega World Heritage Center.
